Meditation Format
Our meditation practice is characterized by a short period of devotional singing, followed by the deep silence of intense concentration as taught by Paramahansa Yogananda. The silence period is used to practice the techniques of concentration and for practice of the Kriya Yoga technique.
To gain the most benefits from meditation, we encourage you to subscribe to the SRF lessons to learn the techniques of meditation. You may also call the resident ministers to find out more about the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.

The Energization Exercises
The goal of the Energization Exercises is to recharge the body with cosmic energy. The Energization Exercises are a form of pranayama (life energy control), a method taught by Paramahansa Yogananda, and are different from ordinary physical exercises. They are practiced before every meditation to attune our body and mind.
Kirtan Meditation
Held during a Friday night Meditation or a Sunday Night Meditation, approximately once a Month *
(except July and August)
Occasionally, our meditation will be led by the Kirtan Group. Check the monthly calendar for dates. Kirtan is group devotional singing accompanied by traditional Indian instruments such as Tabla (drum), Tamboura (string instrument), cymbals, bells and harmonium. There is a period of silent meditation between chants to practice the techniques of meditation and deepen devotion to God.
* Kirtan schedule may be superseded if a minister is leading a Friday or Sunday evening meditation.
